ON THE ROAD AGAIN
As we all know, HDB's make the trek week in and week out doon to Dundee to see the troops through thin and thin, however with the onset of the Scottish cup it was decided by the committee to run a speshal doon the road for our cup teh Versus Stranrear. With the gemme being moved to Sunday due to a clash wi the camel jockeys gemme ower the road,The Thistle car park found the usual suspects lining up for yet another Jabba tour.Spirits were high and banter ongoing as we pulled out at 10.13 A.M. as specified by Jabba's itinery.
Due to a 21st the previous night Arnie was sound asleep no far after Drumossie doing his now legendary Guinea fowl impersonations and making captain Derek fear something was amiss with the gearbox transmission, the journey was fairly uneventful with the usual fill up at Bacon Mountain and the refilling of the water bottle taking the joint initiative of 6 of the HDB's finest mechanical brains to get the bonnet catch open on the transit .Onwards to Bonnie Dundee and the delights of Frews bar, due to having younger members we were ushered through to the sporting memories bar , a treat i had previously not known existed,so a dewy eyed reminisce looking at all the paraphernalia was enjoyed along with a pint or two of Wullie Frews finest.
I was brought back to reality by the roar that greeted Clydes first opener against Celtic on the telly, only for it to be chalked off ,then the next ,chalked off, then the missed penalty.Ach when its no going for the we team its just no going eh......YA BEUTY!!! Clyde went on to cause an upset of the magnitude of ICT's win over the same but the manner was astonishing and gives hope to all "wee" teams and the romance of the cup.
With appetites whetted and thirsts quenched we trooped the few hundred yards down to Dens getting in just as the game kicked off .The Dee were up against a big strong Stranrear side and a few weeks ago would have allowed themselves to be pushed off the ball but the work rate and desire is increasing in the team and when Craig O'Rielly scored the opener hopes were up of the trip to Airdrie we already new was in store for the winners.Smon Lynch hushed his critics with a superb goal to give the Dees a deserved victory and keep the HDB's spirits high for the trek back up the A9
So onwards to the 5th round and a tricky trip to Airdrie,Phil Harper now residing in Cumbernauld kindly hosted the HDB's with a sumptuous feast of Beer and Pehs and his full display of Dee paraphanalia.A great day out followed despite the attentions of Airdries finest neds and a quote of "that's real bricks their throwing "became the quote of the round .A hard fought draw against our Bogey team ensured home advantage for the relay at Dens

Despite the replay being on a school night the HDB's managed a decent showing and in what was one of the teams best performances of the season proved once again that our youngsters have the making of a tremendous team with an emphatic win over Airdrie.Lively 17-year-old Bryan Deasley stormed into the penalty box after eight minutes and crashed home a tremendous strike. Dundee dominated the first half and the tie was settled when Simon Lynch connected with a great cross fae Paul Dixon
So onto the quarter finals and an away tie at Hamilton, who could have dreamed a few short weeks ago the mediocre performances of the early season could turn into a decent cup run......
BRING ON THE ACCIES...
