FEHV'S,FORE'S AND BBQ's

Was it really just a year since the HDB's last ventured onto the golf course? With the goings on that occurred since our last sojourn onto the fairways it seems a long time ago, this year whoever it was decided we would add the fehv-a-side onto the agenda and make use of the superb facilities at the rear of Ross Counties ground at the highland football academy, kindly arranged by honary HDB Brian Irvine.

Due to running late with jobs it was 13:02 by the time I arrived in Dingwall and Jabba had specified 13:00 as kick-off time ,punctuality being Jabba's watchword. The lady on reception looked up disapprovingly "your late! changing room 1,the rest are on the pitch already!" Oh dear, what would be my fate for this indiscipline ,probly dropped to the bench if "The Gaffer" is in a bad mood,I entered the cavernous arena just in time to make the offishal photo shoot and despite a few disapproving glances it appeared that i was still in the team!

what could have been Jim Duffy's first team if administration had gone badly wrong

The fehv's got under way with vigour, strong running and good positional play, how ever, as the game wore on, energy levels dropped and as we went into the third minute, red faces and puffing were the order of the day. Jamie by now leaving most of the "old gits" trailing in his wake and Swayndo showing a few useful touches.Arnie performed well between the sticks and every one else ran as much as age/fitness/bad backs etc allowed.Brian Irvine came in to see how we were getting on but declined a gemme, probably feart of being made to look stupid by the silky skills he had witnessed from the feet of the HDB's finest!!!

So with sair feet, aching legs and stories of that ane that just went ower the bar,we headed of up the road to Alness golf course for 18 holes and a few beers,Arnie was delighted to discover the golf club sold Magners, and took a wee bit of persauding to get out on the course,as sqaully showers were picking up as the first group teed off, these soon died down however and all were treated to an excellant afternoon at Alness which was in great nick and the sun came out to make it a superb afternoon.

Once again some excellant golf was played with Mao returning a very credible 32 points, just ousted from second by Derek with 33 but the performance of the day came from Iain Swayne who played the back nine in 2 over par to return 37 points(and take money aff me)superb golf Iain, your handicap will be adjusted acordingly for next year!!

so after more Magners, we headed back to Inverness and Chez Hopkins for the eagerly anticipated Barbeque, where Garry and Moira had been busy preparing a mountain of burgers, sausages, kebabs and all manner of culinary delicacies in preparation for the hungry troops returning,a big vote of thanks to both of you (and Cameron for his waiters duties)from all the HDB's for a smashing spread eagerly devoured by all in attendance.

Once again a top day out ,thanks to all for your participation and good company, the Craics aye good and I look forward to next years outing,I just hope my legs have recovered in time,
