Highland Dark Blues - Video Nasties ?

The 3rd January might not sound like the best date for a Supporters Club meeting, but with the winter break upon us and withdrawal symptoms a distinct possibility, we decided to hold our 'meeting' early and lined up a Video Night at our secretary's house. These weren't the XXX variety you might have imagined!!

First up to whet the appetite, was a classic Derby encounter from 1990 at Tannadice. A 2 -1 victory for the Dees courtesy of Messrs Wright and Shannon. Remember them?

Then came that incredible scoreline from the game against Rangers at Dens in 1992. A rangers team which included Gough, Stuart McCall, Ali McCoist, Mark Hateley, Ian Durrant and - 'Bomber' Brown! They couldn't hold the Dees that day with goals from Rafferty, Gilzean and Dodds. Aye, him from over the road!

There was another 1 - 0 win against United at Tannadice (can't understand why we picked these games!) this time in 1992. You must remember this era? Sportscene showed about half an hour of highlights of their one Scottish game, followed by some highlights of the English First Division. And Oh yes, Archie MacPherson was the commentator!!

A half-time break was called for and out came the pies. Yes, seriously, out came the Wallace's Pies and Forfar bridies - an'an'ingin'ane'an'a!! Suitably filled, it was on with the second half. In need of goals - after a poor December - we switched to the First Division and a goal-feast against Partick Thiste in 1991. A hat-trick from Eddie Gallagher (who?) that was his 5th in two games, helped secure a 6 - 2 win. Interestingly, we had Ian McCall playing for us and Duffy playing for Thistle!!

As the night wore on, and the alcohol levels were topped up, the games and goals seemed all the more spectacular. A 3 - 0 away victory against United (again) this time in 1986 with goals from Harvey and Shannon. Then a sublime 1 - 0 victory against Celtic in 1988 with a goal from 'Super Tommy' Coyne. This was quickly followed by that 3 - 2 result against Celtic at Parkhead. Frail, Harvey and Rafferty supplied the goals after Celtic were two up. Oh, yes. And Archie was the commentator again!! What joy!

We didn't get through half the videos we had hoped. But then there's always another night.
Maybe the next time we'll be watching an historic Scottish Cup Final...........!
